Childcare plans risk loss of EYPs

The government has been urged to increase funding for free childcare or risk driving down the number of Early Years Professionals (EYPs) in settings.

Trade union Aspect, which represents EYPs, claims the government is"cutting a cake that is too small" with its plans for fairer funding offree childcare through the Early Years Single Funding Formula.

Helen Willis, lead officer at Aspect, said EYPs are already underpaidand spreading funds thinner could make it worse: "There needs to be aninjection into the sector so staff are paid proportionately to theirskills."
