Labour conference: Minister to address childcare funding formula worries

The government has promised to address concerns over a new funding model for the provision of free childcare.

The Early Years Single Funding Formula is due to roll out in April next year. But a survey published by Early Education last week revealed that the new plan for fairer distribution of funding for childcare settings is causing "chaos and confusion" among council-run nurseries.

Speaking after a Labour Party conference fringe meeting on educational disadvantage, schools minister Vernon Coaker told CYP Now: "Concerns about the new single funding formula have been raised with me at the conference.

"People are saying that they are worried about the implementation of it. I've told them we will have a look at this and see what the issues are and see what can be done to help."
