Childcare & Early Years: Communication project for nannies

Early Years
The Children's Workforce Development Council has given 50,000 to a project to help improve young children's speaking and listening skills.

A partnership between the National Childminding Association and learning environment specialist Elizabeth Jarman Ltd, the Communication Friendly Spaces project will develop a training programme for childminders and nannies.

The project will raise awareness of the importance of the learning environment on children's speaking and listening skills. It will have an emphasis on childminders and nannies who are based at home.

Lead partner Elizabeth Jarman said: "A review of the way we have traditionally created learning spaces for children is long overdue. Potentially this programme will make a huge difference to children's speaking and listening skills."

The programme will also develop a pool of regional trainers to work with childminders and nannies on the project at a local level.
