Childcare: Charities unite to lobby politicians

Five children's charities have joined forces in a bid to persuade politicians to back their call for more spending on childcare.

The Daycare Trust, 4Children, National Childminding Association,National Day Nurseries Association and the Pre-School Learning Allianceare holding joint events at the autumn conferences of the main politicalparties to try and boost support for their work.

As well as extra funding, the charities are pressing for improved choiceand access to childcare and a national strategy to improve the qualityof services.

Graham Cook, senior parliamentary and policy officer at 4Children, said:"The charities have a lot of common ground and by working together wecan make a stronger case."

The charities also held an event at the Trade Unions Congress' annualconference last week.
