The Men Into Childcare report found nearly a third of men would considera job in childcare but were deterred by low pay, poor conditions and theperception it's women's work.
It recommended more work experience programmes and men-only courses forqualifications. It also said it was vital to step up efforts to improvepay and conditions in the sector.
Children's minister Beverley Hughes recently pledged 130m forlocal authorities to help recruit and train men. However, the Departmentfor Education and Skills said there were no plans to reintroduce targetsfor hiring men after it scrapped a goal last year of ensuring that sixper cent of the workforce was male.
