Childcare: Awards for firms supporting fathers

Employers who support fathers to take an active role in the care of their children will be recognised with a new national award.

The Daycare Trust will present three awards for UK businesses during National Childcare Week in June. One category is for firms that support fathers, alongside awards for innovation in supporting parents and supporting parents with older children.

Nancy Platts, Daycare Trust head of policy and campaigns, said: "Childcare is still quite often seen as a women's issue. There is a low take-up of paternity rights among men and it seems to be women doing most of the flexible working. We want to understand why that is and identify firms making a particular effort to encourage fathers to undertake the parenting role."

The trust is also running awards for parents who have championed childcare during the week, which has the theme Childcare is Everybody's Business.
