Child trafficking: UK will sign up to Europe convention

The UK will sign a Council of Europe convention to provide greater support for trafficked children, the Government has announced.

The Convention on Action Against Trafficking in Human Beings guaranteesminimum levels of care for victims.

David Bull, chief executive of Unicef UK, said: "Signing the conventionis a step towards providing (trafficked children) with better care."

He also urged the UK Government to join 113 other countries and ratifythe "optional protocol" of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Childon the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography, whichprovides greater protection against sexual exploitation.
