Child Protection: West Riding pilots football ID cards

Identity cards will be issued to adults working with children's football clubs in West Riding under a scheme launched by the county's football association in a bid to improve child protection.

Organisers from more than 200 junior leagues affiliated to the county association are attending special Criminal Records Bureau checking sessions this week.

If their checks - which are done through the Football Association's CRB Unit - are clean they will be issued with the ID cards.

The Football Association has been investigating setting up a similar scheme across England.
