The FA will administer the checks through its own CRB unit, based in Nottingham.
It has already done 10,000 checks on the football workers who make up its "endorsed person's group", such as coaches.
Tony Pickerin, head of child protection at the FA, said: "We didn't want to jump into it because we knew logistics needed to be worked out.
"The Criminal Records Bureau wanted to manage the work input to them from us. We have the potential to be a huge user."
The FA is also recruiting a full-time case manager to deal with child protection worries, which can range from poor practice to verbal, physical and sexual abuse.
