However, campaigners say the proposals in Freedom from Poverty,Opportunity for All: Policies for a Fairer Britain, the party's policydocument published last week, will only work if enough funding isallocated to see the policies through.
The plans outlined in the document include introducing a "pupil premium"which would give more money to pupils from the poorest backgrounds andhelp bring the funding of the most needy state schools up to privateschool levels.
In total 1.5bn would be targeted at children in need and childbenefit would be increased by 5 per family per week to take150,000 children out of poverty.
Tax credits would also be reformed and higher earners would be taken outof the system altogether.
