The report by Parliament's Committee of Public Accounts warns that thescale of the Child Support Agency's problems poses a major challenge forits proposed replacement, the Child Maintenance and EnforcementCommission (CMec).
The committee's report found 270,000 unresolved cases were stuck in thesystem and said the Government may have to spend an extra 320m tosort out the backlog and fix the agency's computer system.
Conservative MP Edward Leigh, the committee's chairman, said the ChildSupport Agency was "one of the greatest public administration disastersof recent times". "Given the scale of the agency's problems, there willbe no quick solution. Many parents could still face long waits beforethey see any money to which they are entitled," he said.
