The SafeBase scheme has been piloted in Lancashire and helps adopters of children who have experienced neglect, the loss of their main caregiver or suffer acute physical and emotional distress.
The scheme sees After Adoption staff assess parent-child interactions in the home and provide a course that uses play techniques to address any problems. The charity also gives ongoing follow-up support to give parents the skills they need to look after the children they have adopted.
The £150,000 will be used over the next three years to run the SafeBase scheme in Merseyside and other areas.
Lynn Charlton, chief executive of After Adoption, said: "This extra funding makes a positive contribution to improving the lives of children who had vulnerable starts."
