
Julian Gravatt's warning came as ministers last week issued councilswith details of how much cash they will receive to fund 16 to 19education and training from April 2010.
Gravatt said uncertainty persists about whether the money will besufficient to fund demand for college places next year.
"The government has allocated a lot of money for places, but we are inunprecedented times because of massive youth unemployment," he said.
The government last week allocated almost half a billion pounds tofinance an extra 72,900 places in education or training for 16- to19-year-olds.
Of this, almost 357m will go towards extra college places andnearly 78m towards apprenticeships.
But Gravatt warned that he still expects colleges to be oversubscribednext year.
