Career framework for residential care

Careers Social Care
The Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) is looking for contractors to develop new standards for residential child care workers.

The standards, to be set out by March 2009, will create a framework for career development in residential child care.

Residential child care workers are currently required to have at least a level 3 NVQ. But, as this may not be enough to meet the development needs of staff, the CWDC has decided to develop standards leading to higher-level qualifications.

The work will help develop training at two levels: a post-induction programme for residential care workers and one for experienced staff and managers. Support material will also be put together.
