The financial needs of young people leaving care examines the gaps in services available for care-leavers since the implementation of the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000.
The support made available is not enough to help them move to independent living, according to a survey of Barnardo's-run leaving-care services.
Only 22 per cent of respondents said services provided written information for young people detailing their entitlements. And 88 per cent said care-leavers were ill-prepared to manage money.
Barnardo's is pressing the Department for Education and Skills to review the implementation of the 2000 Act. The charity is seeking funding to carry out more research into care-leavers.
