Camden: Teenagers vote in youth councillors

Young people in Camden, north London, have elected their first youth council members.

More than 1,500 young people voted in the elections and 54 young people stood as candidates for the 36 posts available last month.

Members of the youth council will meet six times a year and there will be cabinet members responsible for crime prevention, environment and transport, health and safety, education and skills, youth services, fundraising and publicity.

Liberal Democrat councillor John Bryant, executive member for children, said: "The youth councillors have such an important role to play in shaping the future of Camden. All the young people who took part should be extremely proud of themselves. Their commitment and enthusiasm was inspirational."
