Camden looks to get teens active

Youth Work
Disadvantaged young people in Camden, north London, have been given the chance to try activities for free at the newly refurbished Mornington Crescent Gym.

Seventy-five young people were invited to an open day last month where they could try sports or take part in a street-dance class or basketball game.

All the young people who attended receive free school meals or have additional needs.

The open day was part of a council initiative to get more young people to sign up to its COO-L scheme, where disadvantaged teenagers receive £15 a month to enable them to take part in fun activities. They can also apply for free gym membership.

There are already 700 active members of COO-L but the council is hoping increase this to 1,200 young people.
