Cafcass still lax on staff appraisals

1 min read Social Care
The Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) is still failing to properly appraise its staff.

According to its annual report, just 68 per cent of staff appraisals were carried out during 2007/08. Although this is up eight per cent on the previous year it is still significantly below its target of 95 per cent.

A Cafcass spokesman was optimistic there will be a dramatic improvement in next year's figures as a structural reorganisation takes place.

This includes an increase in the number of service managers from 116 to 155. At a senior level its 10 regional director posts have also been scrapped and replaced with three operational directors and 21 heads of service.

"This means there will be more people who are able to offer practical support," the spokesman said.
