Bullying: DfES urged to make stand against game

1 min read
The Government was criticised last week for not taking a stand on a video game featuring school bullying in the light of new plans to clamp down on violence in schools.

Liz Carnell, director of the charity Bullying Online, said she was verydisappointed the Department for Education and Skills had not spoken outagainst Bully, which includes a pupil fight scene.

"We have a white paper in which schools are encouraged to call thepolice when there is violence," she said. "The DfES should be againstthis game."

But a DfES spokesman said video games played at home were a matter forthe Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

"The white paper is quite clear on our position on bullying," hesaid.

"In terms of the video game Bully, that's for the Department ofCulture." When pressed he added: "I am sure officials from bothdepartments are working across government on this."
