Budget 2006: Olympics scheme to engage young

Sports minister Richard Caborn said he hopes the programme will attract at least 70,000 volunteers, who can help organise the games. "There are a lot of areas we can get young people involved in," he said.

The UK School Games will pit different schools against each other. The events will be held in UK cities, beginning this year in Glasgow, then moving around the country before ending up in London in 2011.

Caborn said he is keen for each event to feature a song by young people. The most popular song would feature in the opening ceremony of the 2012 games.
