Research has revealed the Football Association is investigating around 250 cases of abuse and calls for more co-operation with the Premier League.

Research by the Independent Football Commission has revealed that theFootball Association is currently investigating around 250 cases ofchild abuse in football clubs ranging from bullying to sexual abuse(Children Now, 21-27 September).

The Report on Child Protection in Football, which reveals for the firsttime the extent of abuse within the game, also shows how the system forinvestigating incidents is flawed. The Football Association (FA) and thePremier League investigate incidents separately meaning that someonerejected by the FA can still get a job with the Premier League.

"Shared processes and a predominant will to protect all children in allparts of the game would carry a stronger public message about childprotection," suggests the report.
