Boxing scheme to reduce rail crime

Youth Work
A project aimed at reducing railway-related crime in South Wales by encouraging young people to take up boxing has received 10,000 in funding from Network Rail.

The cash has been awarded to St Joseph Boxing Club in Newport, which is located in a rail-crime hotspot.

The funding will go towards new equipment and a computer room, as well as helping to pay for a minibus to transport members to and from the gym to encourage regular attendance.

Alan Milne, community safety manager at Network Rail, said: "Boxing teaches self-discipline, self-control and respect for others. These are important personal qualities to curb antisocial behaviour."
