BME: YJB criticised by committee report

1 min read

The Home Affairs Select Committee released the report on Friday (15 June). MPs criticised the YJB for not tackling the problem urgently enough.

It said the committee was "concerned" by the YJB's failure to challenge the over-representation of black people at youth offending team (YOT) level, which was reflected by an "inconsistent response" by YOTs. It recommended that measures are put in place to ensure YOTs can prove they have identified any over-representation in their area.

Graham Robb, interim chairman of the YJB, said the board would respond in due course.

"The YJB is committed to improving the outcomes for all young people who offend. To do this, any over-representation must be removed from the criminal justice system."
