1 min read
Home Secretary David Blunketts resignation has sparked a ministerial reshuffle in the Department for Education and Skills.

Education Secretary Charles Clarke has taken over from Blunkett at the Home Office, while Ruth Kelly has moved from the Cabinet Office to replace Clarke at the DfES.

Prime Minister Tony Blair also moved David Miliband from the DfES to take charge of Labour's policy for the next general election within the Cabinet Office.

Miliband's replacement as school standards minister is Stephen Twigg, formerly schools minister, whose old role is now occupied by Derek Twigg, who has moved from the Chief Whip's Office.

Teaching unions praised Clarke's work as education secretary.
