When Rob Williams takes up his post as chief executive at the Office of the Children's Commissioner in England this August, he won't feel out of place. His new office, next to London Bridge, will be a mere stone's throw from his current location in Southwark, where he is chief executive of Bliss, a charity for premature babies.
Despite having spent the past three years working with the very youngest of children, Williams is adamant he has what it takes to represent the whole spectrum of England's children and young people. "I spent 10 years working with children of all ages, all the way up to 20," he says. Williams spent those 10 years doing relief and development work in Africa and Asia, including spells in Rwanda, Burundi and Cambodia, where he helped to build 36 schools.
