Sarah Shillito, the head of the foundation, explains that the move is not "gimmicky" but is designed to create a partnership that will be of most benefit to young people. The foundation has always tried to look at alternatives to conventional charitable giving. Young people aged 16 to 25 are not the most appealing group for a charity to support, which is one of the reasons the foundation did.
"The foundation started out genuinely looking at what needed doing," says Shillito. "If you ask people what they care about, the same causes always come up - it is always children, and it is always cancer - so we looked at where money is not going but where there is a real need.
