Big interview: A royal reward for service

It is 30 years since Phil Weston - who was last month appointed OBE in the Queen's birthday honours list - first became involved with the Worcester-based Perdiswell Young People's Leisure Club. He started as a volunteer at the club at the age of 19, and continued to give up his spare time for the next 15 years while working for the Midlands Electricity Board. For the past 15 years, Weston has held a paid position at the club and he currently holds the post of development manager. He turns 50 in September.

"I'm a development manager and trustee - when I started 30 years ago, I was a volunteer and I did basic youth work training," he says. "I now support 27 staff and one of my main responsibilities is seeking funds to expand."
