Best thing I ever did: Simone Allen, 20, Kilburn, London

I joined the group in 2001 and have been chairperson three times. The group was created by youth workers and I got involved through my ex-foster parent. I chaired the meetings with the director of social services, who allowed us to put forward our views.

It was great as we organised trips to Blackpool and Brighton and stayed in hotels, which I wouldn't have done otherwise. Also, I used to be really quiet and it has helped to build up my confidence and self-esteem.
