
Dr Renee Marks didn't expect Integrate Families to become what it is today. When she started her adoption support agency in September 2006 her plan was to run a private practice helping adoptive families on the verge of collapse.
"Originally I managed an adoption team and one of the things that I felt was the most tragic thing on earth is adoption disruptions," she says. "It's tragic because it's not only the child that gets hurt in the process but also the adopters. You've got people who had dreams of having a child, then got a child and thought everything will be bliss. Of course, it doesn't always work that way.
