How an Oxford nursery is "outstanding" in meeting the needs of its international children.

When Sonja Fenton-Pryor became manager of Kidsunlimited in Jack Straws Lane, Oxford, in July 2010, she was shocked at the poor attitude of staff.

She says "personal agendas" were rife, with staff spending more time persuing those than focusing on improving the quality of their work with children.

After three days of observing such behaviour, Fenton-Pryor held a staff meeting where she "laid down the expectations I had very clearly".

She told the predominantly young, inexperienced workforce that "what you have been doing in the past is not acceptable," adding that "it's not a playground for people to moan".
