Behind the Inspection Rating: Children have say in their care

Warrington's fostering service believes in giving young people a meaningful say in their care.

Warrington's fostering service has just made the leap from a satisfactory rating to good. When it comes to reasons why, two stand out. The first is the council's decision to co-locate children's services in 2010; the second is the fostering service's belief in giving young people a meaningful say in their care.

The move to co-locate services came as a result of the council becoming subject to an improvement plan back in 2009, says Jenny Turnross, service manager for the children in care service. "We redesigned the children in care service along with the rest of social work in March 2010 to ensure that we had a fully integrated, co-located model of working," she explains.
