By his own admission, 13-year-old Kemar Walker used to operate on ashort fuse in school. "I'd get angry when people cussed my mum, and getinto a fight," he admits. But Kemar then signed up for a shortresidential course run by Leap, a London-based organisation that teachesyoung people and youth workers about conflict prevention, resolution andmediation.
The workshop had a dramatic effect on Kemar's approach to potentialconflict.
"I learned how to calm myself down and to think about the kind oftrouble I'd get into if I did have a fight. Now when it happens I justwalk away. If they still cuss my mum I think they don't actually knowher, it doesn't mean anything, and if I don't react they'll getbored."
