The Roots and Wings scheme at Chickenley Community School in Dewsburyhelps children deal with the transition to secondary school, theiridentity, relationships, and aspirations through art.
Children's concentration, motivation, attendance, confidence andbehaviour improved significantly, according to an independentevaluation. In it, one child said: "It has helped me not to lose myfocus in other lessons".
Delegates at a conference on the scheme called for it to be expandednationwide. It is funded by Children's Fund Kirklees and managed by artgroup Loca.
