Researchers asked workers in children's homes in Denmark and Germany what their first duty to their children was. Upwards of 80 per cent of Danes said it was to support their children. About 95 per cent of Germans gave a similar response.
The comparable figure among British residential childcare workers was 41 per cent. Far more of the British, 59 per cent, said the first need was "to follow procedure".

There used to be an automatic ban on identifying children and young people involved in family court cases. A Court of Appeal ruling just changed that.
