The Daily Mail blamed the parents. The Daily Telegraph called the report controversial. The Guardian warned us not to wallow in indiscriminate self-pity. Eh?

The Independent talked to young people. "It's the way kids are brought up" said one teenager in West Dunbartonshire. "Sometimes their families don't care where they are or what they are doing. Grown-ups buy them booze just to get them to go away".

This was the only quote that was anonymous. That is no reason to assume it was a plant by a Daily Mail reader.

Oswestry Borough Council discussed plans to provide more bus services and cheaper leisure and sports facilities for young people. The borough councillors voted 11-10 to throw out the proposal.
