Where have the last three-and-a-half years gone? Writing Social Claire has been a childhood ambition realised. I wanted to study journalism, but instead entered a factory at 16 and the writing was slowly forgotten.
I started working with children in 1983 on a playbus. From there I progressed to adventure playgrounds and playschemes, eventually becoming a play development officer with a local council.
In the late 80s two friends died of Aids and as panic and prejudice spread, I became a volunteer with an organisation that educated young people about it. I moved into youth counselling in the early 90s, and then into sexual health and sex education. Nowadays I do a children's rights job for young people in care and I love it.
