A 10-year-old is receiving treatment for alcohol addiction, said the Daily Mirror. Details were vague. The unnamed child, who the paper dubbed an "alco-tot", was spotted swapping soft drinks for bottles of alcopops. "Counsellors were called in," said the paper, making them sound like an emergency rescue service.

To make up for the vagueness of the story, the paper quotedopinions.

First up were the views of David McNeill, director of the Institute ofAlcohol Studies: "This child has grown up in a world promotingalcopops." He blamed the drinks industry. "Our world would be a betterplace if these drinks weren't around," he said.

The paper didn't bother mentioning that the institute believes the worldwould be a better place if alcohol was not around at all. The Instituteof Alcohol Studies is just a working name of the Alliance HouseFoundation. This used to be the United Kingdom Temperance Alliance whosefirst objective is: "To spread the principles of abstinence".
