There's good news for the bunch of 110 "experts" who warned that childhood is being ruined by burgers and computers - cue much wringing of hands across national media.

Classic children's magazine Look and Learn is making a comeback.Creators hope it will provide an antidote to today's "junk culture",reports the Daily Mirror. "From castles and damsels in distress tothings like how to prepare conkers. That's what many adults rememberabout being young and they want that for their kids," says editorStephen Pickles. Hoorah!

- Parents should teach children to drink sensibly by encouraging them tohave a glass of wine with family meals.

This appears to be one of the main recommendations from a vast studyinto under-age drinking by Liverpool John Moores University's Centre forPublic Health.

Young people who buy their own booze are much more likely to be bingedrinkers, says the report, so lead author Professor Mark Bellis urgesparents to adopt an approach where young people drink in moderation.Researchers interviewed 10,000 15- and 16-year-olds to come up with thisutterly middle-class solution to a problem that cannot be solved by aglass of Rioja over dinner with mama and papa. Okay, so they dorecommend some sensible stuff like tougher penalties for shopkeepers butcome on. Boozed-up teenagers could do better.
