Autistic children offered support

1 min read Early Years Health
A London borough has created a service for under-fives diagnosed with autism or autistic spectrum conditions.

The Barnet Early Autism Model works with families at home offering a personalised programme for each individual child. Conservative councillor Fiona Bulmer, the borough's lead member for children's services, said: "We are leading the way in Barnet in providing support for children with autistic spectrum conditions and this new initiative will extend and develop the high quality provision even further."

She added it has been proven that early intervention for children on the autistic spectrum improved their chances of communicating in a social setting and having a happy school life.

The team, which is led by an advisory teacher for autistic spectrum conditions, includes a speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, educational psychologist and five trained workers.
