Autistic young people offered internships across government

The Autism Exchange, led by the Civil Service and charity Ambitious about Autism, is supporting the cohort to take part in a three-week paid internship and help them take their first steps on the career ladder. 

The programme has been running since 2015 and has previously supported 90 autistic young people overall to gain paid work experience. 

This year the programme has expanded to offer three times as many placements, compared to any other single year. 

Just  21.7 per cent of autistic adults are in paid employment and the programme aims to address these inequalities by providing autistic young people with an opportunity to develop their skills and gain practical experience in the workplace, the organisers have said.
