The report, Faith Primary Schools: Better Schools or Better Pupils?,examined whether religious primary schools improved pupil attainmentmore than other schools.
Researchers found children who go to faith schools are more likely to dobetter because of factors like family background and attitudes toeducation.
Although faith schools "could offer a very small advantage over secularschools in terms of age-11 scores in maths and English", the researcherssaid this was because of their admission and governancearrangements.
Faith schools educate around one third of all pupils in the state sectorin Britain.
