The call comes as the London Borough of Hillingdon said that 250 staffare facing redundancy because the Government has not paid 5.3m tothe council for its care of young asylum seekers. The council has highnumbers of these children because of the proximity of HeathrowAirport.
A spokesman for the council said the Government had promised to fund itssupport of asylum-seeking children then changed the rules afterHillingdon had spent the money.
Peter Gilroy, the Association of Directors of Social Services' lead onasylum, said: "This is an issue for all gateway authorities. If we don'thave a serious review the conflict will end up in the courts, whichdoesn't help public policy."
