Asylum lawyers seek guidance

Social Care
Asylum and immigration tribunals must be given specific guidance on the treatment of all children involved in appeals, the professional body for immigration lawyers has urged.

The Immigration Law Practitioners' Association (ILPA) was responding toa consultation on the procedures for tribunals, which decide appealsagainst Home Office decisions.

While ILPA believes the guidance for child and vulnerable witnesses infamily courts is good, it wants further guidance for tribunals thattakes into account the range of circumstances for the childreninvolved.

Syd Bolton, a solicitor and member of ILPA's children's sub-committee'said: "It is important that everything that is put in place makes thecourt a place where a child can be made to feel as comfortable aspossible and be given the opportunity to be heard."
