Archbishop Desmond Tutu greets a child and his learning mentor Sacha Tuxford before attending a special assembly at St Mary's School in south London. The archbishop, a freeman of the borough of Lewisham, has long-standing connections with the Anglican community in the area as he served as a local curate. At the assembly, Jadah Francis-Ferrell, a Year 6 pupil, gave a welcome speech, praising the archbishop for helping end apartheid and being an inspiration for future generations. Head teacher Matthew Britt highlighted how Tutu's determination, vision, love and service reflected the school's motto: "Aiming high - united in faith". The archbishop praised the talents of the school singers and speakers, prayed with children and visited classrooms to see pupils at work.
