A large group of parents from a struggling academy want me, as director of children's services, to take it over under local authority control and sort it out. What should I do?
Peter Lewis: What these parents want is just not possible. It would require primary legislation to enable such a move.
However, they should get your support to do what they can within the system. They should meet the head teacher and chair and lay out their concerns including what they feel is missing and should be done or improved. If that meeting is turned down or things do not improve then contacting the Regional Schools Commissioner would be a good step.
