I manage a voluntary youth project on a local housing estate. How can I ensure it meets the needs of all young people, not just the ones who use us regularly?
If your service is on a local estate, it is natural that there will be a bit of a “territory” issue. But it is important that young people who consider your service as their space do not put off those who might need an extra bit of support to use it.
Get some of the existing young people involved in developing an open evening and invite everyone, including adults, from the estate to come and see what is on offer. You could offer activities such as games or smoothie making, and bigger events during school holidays to encourage newcomers.
