I am a volunteer at an LGBT youth group. Recently, we all went out to celebrate my 19th birthday at two gay clubs in London. But I was really shocked to find that there was a particular dress code for lesbians – in fact, in one club those seen as looking "too girly" were not admitted. How would you respond to this?

Like you, I am shocked and disappointed that after years of trying to break through the stereotypical images and labelling of lesbians that something like this should be going on in a gay venue. However, it might be worth checking whether this was part of a particular event or campaign before assuming it’s a regular practice.
