Arts: Theatre opens new building in Burnley

1 min read

Young people from across east Lancashire will mark the occasion by taking part in a range of activities until Friday. More than 450 young people attend workshops and performances each week at the theatre's 1.5m base on the Queens Park Road and other community venues.

Lily Cooper, a support worker at the theatre, said: "The extended facilities will allow more community groups to benefit from the theatre's spaces."

Separately, building work has also finished on Scotland's first custom-built arts centre for young people. The 3.2m building is situated in the redeveloped Old Sheriff Court in the Merchant City area of Glasgow and will be officially launched at the end of October. It will be the Scottish Youth Theatre's first purpose-built permanent base.
