The repairs are being supported with a 1,420 Arts Council grant and a further 620 from the local Positive Activities for Young People programme.
Lighting will also be added to the structure as part of the improvements.
Youth and community worker Charlie Bluglass said: "The work with the young people is really helping them to feel positive about the future of the shelter and they are making their mark on it."
