Cumbria Constabulary barred all under-16s from the streets of Wigton after 9pm during the Easter school holidays (YPN, 7-13 April, p4).
But Lynn Healey, project manager of local youth club Wigton Youth Station, believes the move was extreme. "All young people under 16 have been targeted," she said. "Not only by age, but by address since the curfew does not cover the whole of Wigton but selected areas within the town. This alone has antagonised the young people and some residents." A spokesman for Cumbria Constabulary said the initiative, which ended this week, had gone well."The curfew finished on Monday and the full results of the experiment will be known shortly," said the spokesman.
